So, on Wednesday I learned that I had a stoic life philosophy, which did not surprise me. Since I was diagnosed with diabetes, my endocrinologist told me that I could not allow my emotions to affect me. I’m not saying that I am emotionless and desensitized, but I have to watch certain emotions like anger and grief. They negatively impact my blood glucose level, which negatively impacts my physical state. In other words, control my emotions or let my emotions control me. I do not completely agree with the core doctrine of Stoicism, but I do believe that I have been “dealt a set of cards that cannot be traded in” (diabetes). I also feel that due to my diabetes I have become a stronger, focused, and more determined person. It is a curse and a blessing. I am more responsible and independent, yet I am dependent on others when I am sick. Many people feel bad for me or think that I have a hard life when they learn that I’m diabetic, but in actuality I believe I have it pretty easy. I’m always happy because I don’t allow things to get to me and I already possess the drive and determination to succeed. I just have to continue my stoic lifestyle. Sometimes I wonder how I would have turned out if I wasn’t diabetic. Would I still be stoic? But I guess that’s not for me to know.
My second highest philosophy is Existentialism, which I believe is the complete opposite of Stoicism. I follow the core doctrine of Stoicism, but I believe the core doctrine of Existentialism, if that is possible. I hate the idea that we as humans cannot completely choose the course of our life. I like to be responsible for everything I do. I know that everything is not determined by me like my birth and death, but I’d like to believe everthing else is up to me. I know God has a major role in my life, but sometimes I like to believe in the deist theory. God is there but he allows us to plan out our own lives. I’m not sure if there is a such thing as a stoic existentialist or an existential stoic, but I am one. And I am curious to see if I will remain the same throughout college?
According to the exercise, my philosophy of life is Buddhism. This is shocking to me since I definitely do not consider myself a Buddhist. However, I do believe that our desires and blind ambitions can sometimes be our downfall. I support the idea that one can find happiness and satisfaction in life’s simple pleasures. For instance, one normally feels a little gratification for helping those in need, whether it is holding the door open for someone or offering a smile to someone who seems to be having a rough day. Ambitions and goals in life are important. However, blind ambitions lead one to develop a very narrow focus in his life. The result is that one tends to forget the people that he cares about the most. For example, I think that most people in power cause affliction especially in third world countries. Many parts of Africa and the Middle East are experiencing great suffering due to the people who run their lands. These people only care about the destruction of their enemies and the power that comes along with it. As a result, innocent lives are stolen and compromised everyday. The greed and jealously of those in power lead to suffering. In my opinion, greed and jealously come solely from blind ambition. In addition to Buddhism, my philosophy shows signs of Stoicism. I agree with Stoicism in a sense because I do believe that I cannot trust and rely on others. I have experienced many things in my life that have taught me to be a “go-getter”. Stoicism expresses that you must limit your desires and keep your emotions in control. This compliments part of the Buddhism belief that suffering is caused by desire. So, I guess my philosophy of life is primarily based on keeping my desires under control and going after my goals without forgetting what matters the most.
According to the four philosophies of life my philosophy is Stoicism. It concerns cosmic determinism human freedom, and the belief that virtue is to maintain a will that is in accord with nature. In many ways yes, I would have to agree with being stocisim. I do believe the hand you are dealt in life does play a role in what you do but, that should not stop you from achieving whatever your goal is. It also says to be free from, anger, envy, and jealousy.I believe when life gives you lemons just make lemonade. So your happiness does depend on you. “Every man has perfect freedom, provided he emoncipates himself from mundane desires.” From my own personal expierence no matter what happen how bad it was, yes I may show anger and some emotion but for the most part I don’t and I just roll with what’s going on at that time. So on a percentage chart about 80 percent of me is Stoicism the other 20 Buddhism. Only because at times wwhen people want things they would do anything for and if the dont recieve it they most likely would be unsatisfactory. I just hope to be able to control all of my emotions on day.
My philosophy of life is Existentialism. I agree that what you are today is how you live your life. Everyone has their own perspectives of life. Responsibility and self-determination are both qualities that everyone has to achieve success and happiness depending on the actions of the person. I don’t believe in depending on others or the environment that can somehow affect the person’s ability to lead their life. What makes a person who they are today is how much they cherish life and live their life their own way. In addition, there is no blame in anything else but one’s own self. Everyone has the potiential to live their life the way they want depending on their own abilities and actions. Everyone believes that happiness and satisfaction is the key to living a bountiful life. But in order to achieve one’s own satisfying needs and wants is one’s own responsibility to achieve it. A person cannot just sit there and hope for what they desire most will come their way. It is something a person must work for by using their own mind and determination. Life would be too easy if everyone can have their own way. Failure will always be apart of life no matter what circumstances. It is something everyone has to accept and move on. But it does not stop a person to not give up. A person who does not give up wins. It takes a person who has great determination and having their own responsibility to life to know what success really is and understanding their own true meaning of life.
From the exercise we all participated in the other day, my philosphy of life is Existentialism. The “textbook” definition of this philosophy is very simple in stating that I, or we, believe that freedom is limitless and that life is determined by the person who is living it. I believe that this descibes my philosphy very well. It has always been a favorite quote of mine that life is what you make it. I believe that no matter what situation you are born into, or placed into, you will have to be able to make your own opportunities to advance your life, because they are not always given. Its true that somethings and some opportunities are easily accesible to certain people, but that does not limit your life, It just means that you have to work harder. I’ve always felt this way! I have absolutely no sympathy who blame their present situations on their past situations, or on their parents situation. Although I am quite a religious Christian, I feel that there are no “forces” that can control your life or its situation. I believe that what God has planned for us as individuals can only be fufilled if we take our destiny into our own hands. We all have unlimited potential, but if we do not pursue it out of fear, we will never attain our goals in life. Although life would be much easier if everyone started off on the same foot, but we don’t, so we have to take things into our own hands.
My philosophy of life from the exercise we did in class is Buddhism. I might agree with the meaning of Buddhism but I don’t think it explains my thoughts fully.
This is my philosophy of life is to live life to the fullest but with certain limits. I say this because us humans are put on Earth for a reason. Many of us have the same reasons while others differ. The reason I am here on Earth is to complete a task given by God till death arrives. For instance getting my education is apart of this task it will help me be open minded and to understand certain concepts of how this world revolves. I also believe that as we make mistakes it is for us to learn and for the smart ones to never fall. I ask myself this question if this world was created perfect then does that mean that us humans are destroying it slowly or is it natural disasters? I truly agree with those who say patience is the key to success because if an opportunity passed you up a better one can be on it’s way so patience is the key. Determination, goals, and achieving are sets that are placed by individuals who are looking forward to succeeding in life. After all life is full of surprises the unexpected can be looking forward to meeting you.
According to the survey, my philosophy of life is stoicism, which states that human freedom is finite and limited. I believe that this philosophy does describe my view on life perfectly. My actions have always been limited to the fear of dreadful consequences that might occur in the future, such as events that can ruin my life or hurt those that I care most about. As a result, many people often label me as pessimistic person, but I do not feel that my life is revolved around negative ideas. To my opinion, if one does not consider the consequences of their actions, he or she can fall into an inescapable hole filled with confusion and pain. I also believe that happiness can only be obtained by controlling your emotions. In life, one’s emotions towards others are the main obstacles from reaching his/her true goal in life. Whether a person is in love or filled with anger, these emotions eventually distract him/her from obtaining the blissful life that they always wanted. As a result of this belief, I often find myself suppressing my anger or feelings inside, hoping that they will not affect my life. Sadly, they can not be always be tamed. Once in awhile, I eventually break down and succumb to my emotions inside, which soon create more pain and confusion. Although many have told me that it is hazardous to my health, I continue to do so regardless of the warnings because I cannot risk letting these feelings control my life. I have hurt so many people before and I do not want to see anymore tears fall because of my actions.
Surprisingly, it turns out that my philosophy on life was Buddhism. It was said that craving was the cause to human suffering. Even though I partially agree to this I was thinking of all the gamblers that have huge debts. But if one can’t control one’s desires, then he or she will never be satisfied with what they have and greedily want more. Buddha taught that we should focus more our spiritual side and less on worldly attachments. I would be happy if I can balance those two things so that I can lead a decent life. If I think about it, it is nearly impossible to achieve nirvana, the path that leads out of suffering. We live in a tainted world filled with corruption, war, greed, poverty, prejudice, and maladies. There is no end to suffering in our everyday lives. Attaining eternal happiness is all but a dream. Everyone must endure the hardships of life no matter what situation we’re in. I won’t look back. I can only look forward and hope for a brighter future. If I think about it, we’re all running away from suffering so that we can be at ease. We must confront our weaknesses and struggle so that we can still hold onto life and not cowardly end it. I don’t believe in fate but I know that I am in control of my own life and if unfortunate things do happen then I will have to accept it or change it and move on.
Of the four philosophies of life, my philosophy is existentialism. The term existentialism is defined as “a philosophical movement which posits that individual human beings create the meaning and essence of their lives.” I believe that an individual is responsible for his or her own actions. If an individual is wiling to take a risk in doing something, he or she should be willing to accept the consequence of all his or her actions. I also agree that human freedom is limitless. People should be able to do what they want when they want. However, they are responsible for their own actions. For example, if I decide to leave my house without asking my parents for permission, come home late, and get caught, I would be willing to take all the punishment my parents give. Since I made a bad decision, I will have to take full responsibilities for my actions. I do believe in God, but i do not believe that some divine or cosmic force controls my destiny. I think a persons life is like a story book. Each individual has his or her own stories and adventures. “You are the author of your life, and you are the pen that writes.” My meaning and purpose of life is to learn, live and love. In life, there are many things to learn. A person can choose his or her own life style. I believe you should have fun and enjoy life. You should always live your life to the fullest and be willing to take risks. It is better to do things than have it left undone. Then, if you make a mistake you can always learn from it, rather than wonder “what if?”
In my opinion, there isn’t one specific overview that I have on life. In class we took a survey that was supposed to determine our philosophy based on our ratings to the questions. If the assignment was true my philosophy falls under Buddhism. Buddhism is also a religion. At first I was stunned when I was told my philosophy was Buddhism because I didn’t have a clear understanding of it. The handout we received broke it down into four parts; Suffering, the Origin of Suffering, the End of Suffering, and Path to Nirvana. In the handout under suffering it stated all worldly life is unsatisfactory, disjointed, and containing suffering. I agree because there is no one who is happy and accepting everything that’s going on in life without complaining. No matter how we spend our life, we will never be happy with everything that is going on. The second point of the handout was the origin of suffering. It stated suffering is caused by attachment or desire which is rooted in ignorance. In my opinion, this means when you have a desire for something that you don’t have, you can become ignorant in the process of getting it. Some people don’t realize how ignorant they can be. Those people are suffering because they are too ignorant to ask for or receive help. In conclusion, I can agree to the philosophy that I was matched up with. I do agree we are suffering and I do agree with the origin of suffering. The only way we don’t suffer as much is when we stop worrying about unnecessary things.
According to this survey,my philosophy was hedonism. This is the philosophy that pleasure is the most important pursuit. This describes my beliefs. I believe that if you are not enjoying what your doing, then you should not do it at all. Life is too short not to enjoy it. I am a free spirit. I enjoy my life, and I like to help others enjoy there lives. Thinking positively is a way of focusing on the fun aspects of life. I believe this is an important philosophy because people mostly focus on the negative. Life is not just black or white. I believe that there is a grey area. I’m not suggesting that one should be oblivious to the reality of some suffering in life, however since there is nothing you can do to change it, you should fulfill your life with as much happiness and satisfaction as you can. I like to shop, eat delicious food, watch funny television shows, meet new people, and go to the hair salon. This gives me pleasure.
Everyone has something they enjoy to do, and instead of rarely having time to enjoy yourself, you should make time. No one can bring me down when I am ready to enjoy myself. Another person whom this philosophy describes is my mother. My mother has had negativity in her life. She always will have it in her life, however, she will never let the negativity bring down the positivity. She has a truly inspiring spirit. My mother likes to have fun. Whenever she is in charge a kind of club or committee, she tries to make things fun and exciting.People with this philosophy are the most positive, satisfied people you will ever meet.
My philosophy of life is a combination of all four types: Stoicism, existentialism, hedonism, and Buddhism. My life at this moment is filled with confusion. I don’t know where I stand in my life and I don’t know what I want to do with my life. That why I’m in college so it helps decide what I want to do. I think that is the main reason for my indecisiveness because I cannot discover what I truly want. Most of the time I just go with whatever my heart tells me to do. I try not to over think situations that require little thought, yet I tend to over think it anyway. For example, as indicated in the philosophy of Stoicism, I know that happiness is best attained not by relying on what others provide me, but by limiting my desires and by keeping my emotions under control. I tend to hold back my anger and not let things bother me so much. According to existentialism, I believe that the meaning and purpose of life is something determined by the person living it. I think that my life is what I make it to be. The idea of hedonism that I agree with is that the best way to live life is to strive always to maximize pleasure and to minimize pain. In life to gain the most experience is through hardships. We must learn form our mistakes if we want to get anywhere in life. Going through hardships builds us up as a stronger human being.
I guess that my philosophy of life would be based 50% on my religious beliefs and 50% on my own experiences. I feel that we as human beings were placed here in order to better the earth. Although we have done this with technology, I feel that we haven’t done this in a physical sense or a moral sense. But focusing on the moral sense, I feel that everyones goal in life should be to grow. When we come into this world we are imperfect and I think that the many obstacles and hardships that we face are there in order for us to learn, grow, ad try to become the best person we can be. I don’t have an unrealistic view of the world. I know that in a sense, life can be a terrible thing to endure, but I also feel that no mater what circumstances we are handed, we control our own happiness. Therefore because I believe in both God and karma/fate, I think that God has given us both a pre-planned set of experiences and the ability to shape our own destinies. This has also led to me believing in the golden rule: treat others the way that you want to be treated. Although I’m not perfect I do try t pracetice that rule everyday. I think that if everyone could just put other people before themselves then the wrld would be a much better place. So in a sentence, I would say that my philosophy is, life is hard, so make it great.
The philosophy of my life is based own my on experiences. I think everyone is connected in a way. People were put on this earth to help one another through the think and thin. I call this the circle of life. From my experiences, there are people who only care about themselves. These people are selfish, unfair, and cruel. This is why they have homeless people living under bridges. These homeless people were once equal as everyone else. Their futures were bright like everyone else, but now it is blurry. Do you know why there are homeless? They are homeless because their parents abandon them. I know this through my experiences in life. My friend was abandon by his parents. He is now a part of my family. My parents welcome him with open arms. He told this heartbreaking story. I wanted to cry, but I didn’t because men don’t cry. I believe that everyone should be treated equal with love and care. God put us here for a reason. He wants us to help each other, so we can all enter his kingdom.
I dont really know the proper name for my Philosophy so i will just explain how i live my life. Most of the time i dont live my life for the long run, I usually live it for that day. I feel like working hard is good and getting an education is great, but i also feel that it you dont take a break from work or school that you are just wasting your life. I dont really like to keep alot of friends because usually friend get you into trouble. I feel that the goverment is very corrupt and it is really run big business. Most of the time I do things with out thinking about the consequences. I like living my life on the edge or in the fastlane I would say. I try to stay away from things that would stress me out. I do believe in giving people second chance after that i just dont wanna see the person anymore if the mess up again. I am a christian I believe in Jesus. I cant stand George Bush I feel that he is one of the worst presidents we have ever had, no I change my mind he is the worst president we ever had. I do believe in capital punshiment. I dont believe that people should get life in prison for drugs, not that i promote drugs, I just that it takes the attention off the real criminals, such as: rappest and murders. I feel that the Iraqi War is a bigg waste of time .
Life is a series of unplanned events in my opinion. There is no set Philosophy for my life. I believe you have to take life as it comes at you. You can hope for the best in situations, but you should always expect the worse. When you expect the worse you prepare yourself for whatever is thrown at you. You can’t allow yourself to get caught up in your emotions because that gives others the ability to take advantage of you and to dominate you. I believe you should love everybody, including your enemies, however you should not allow that love to make you weak. You have to be strong because life throws some pretty hard punches and the only way to survive is to dodge the punches or take them and use them as a stepping stone to success. Like they say, its a “dog eat dog” world, so my philosophy is eat or be eaten. Based on experience, this is the only way to make it. I know it may sound a bit selfish, but sometimes you have to think about yourself because chances are, if you don’t noone else will. I’m not saying no one cares about you, but if you don’t do things for yourself it won’t get done. Life is not a bunch of handouts. You have to work for what you want and do what is necessary to get to where you want to go. So I may not identify with a published philosophy, but this is the philosophy I live by day to day.
My philosophy I found out on the first day of freshman seminar is stoicism. Sticism concerns cosmic determination and human freedom, and that virtue is to maintain a will that is in accord with nature. It also states that vitue resides in the will, everything good or bad in a persons life depends on depends on themselves. Its also states that human freedom is caught in the web. I that there is no freedom. We live in a country that says that we are free, but we are not free enough to make our own decisions. They say that we are but yet we are locked up like we are in a prison. Human freedom is limited because there are a lot of things that we can and cannot do. Some people have more freedom than others. It states that I am a strong-willed and tough-minded person. I also do not rely on others to do things for me. I am a leader not a follower. I like to help people make better decisons and give them advice about experiences that I have went through. My happiness does not come from others because I feel that I can only make me happy. Also in love no one can really love you if you don’t love yourself. I beleive that a person must live their up to their own expectations. People should live for the moment because tomorrow is not promised to anyone. My philosophy about life is to be happy, respect and love yourself, and other. Don’t le t life bring you down.
My Philosophy of life is one that is taken to another level. Everybody knows of the Love, Live, and Life. This means that a person loves to live life, which is taken that do things that you love to make your life better. Well that is understandable, but I changed the words slightly. My philosophy of life is to Live, Love, and Life. This philosophy means to that me as a person must live to love the life that was given to me by my parents and by God. That I am grateful for being on this earth and that I love everybody who is in my life. From my mother who decided that I was worth being on this to my older sisters who love me with all their hearts. I live my life to the fullest loving all that I do. My philosophy teaches me that if I just live life the way that my parents taught me, to love everything and to love that I will be able to get through the toughest times that life brings forth. I live to love everything and everybody because that to me is what life is always about. This comes out in my career, my home life, and school life. When I live to love, I am able to love life because everything feels special and a part of me. I also believe me living to love brings me closer to God because God always said to love your neighbor and all living things.
My philosophy of life is stoicism, according to the survey. The core doctrine of Stoicism concerns Determinism and human freedom, and the belief that virtue is to maintain a Will that is in accord with nature. I believe that this philosophy does describe my view of life exactly. My actions have always been limited to the fear of dreadful consequences that might occur in the future, such as events that can ruin my life or hurt those that I care most about. It also states that human freedom is finite and limited: you have been dealt a set of cards that cannot be traded in. What you do is limited by the cards in your hand. I disagree with this statement because when life throws a set of cards your way it’s not that they cannot be traded. The situation may make it difficult to get out of. If there’s a will there a way I say. For an example, I had a hard life growing up, not to sound sad; both of my parents did not want me as their responsibility. My father was a dead beat from start and my mother just always through me on a family member. Making feel unwanted by the both of them just gave me the will power to accept the situation and become a better person. In my opinion you can trade the cards in that’s only if you retain the will power and courage to make that drastic change. You know that happiness is best attained not by relying on what others provide you, but by limiting your desires and by keeping your emotions under control.
I was not in class this day. Due to my incoherent ability to locate classes and listening to everyone but myself. So I cannot speak from the things taught in class. I can only give you the definition of life philosophy to me. My life philosophy is very basic. I believe a having simple and reasonable solutions to problems will enhance your ability to deal with almost anything. When something is wrong you must accept the negativity of that error and work for a positive solution. An individual must realize that one cannot change the past but learn from it and in the future strive to make productive situation out of the negativity they once encountered. Never stress something so much. I feel that eventually everything will sort itself out. Try your best, and if you can honestly say that this is your best than everything that was meant to happen will happen eventually. Life is way too short to stress over the small things. Everyone should learn to live by this philosophy because it will help them see things in a different light and ensure a more happy life. Understand, that everything in life will not always be good, in fact, if find that ninety percent of the events I have endured in my lifetime were awful or close to awful, but I have learned that if you make the best of what you have and embrace who you are, you will find that the only time something goes wrong and affects you its because you let it.
Existentialism is philosophical movement which posits that individual human beings create the meaning and essence of their lives. I strongly believe and agree with this philosophy. Life’s destiny cannot and should not be determined by the individual’s past, parents, or any other dilemma that occurs in his or her life. Life is full of choices and the choices are made by the individual; therefore, the individual should accept all responsibility for his or her actions. For example, you grew up in a poor distorted neighborhood where kids did drugs and dropped out of school. Now you are faced with a choice to follow the crowd or receive an education. Your future is determined by the choices that are made. I have no sympathy for people who complain and criticize others for what he or she does not have. I was blessed with financially stabled parents who instilled the cause and effects of an education into my brain. If the individual has a poor or mediocre life is does give him or her right to slack off work and receive pity from others. My lavish life should motivate them to make smart decisions so that the life of luxury is obtainable for them also. I do not believe in the stoicism philosophy. This philosophy says that human freedom is finite and limited; you have been dealt a set of cards that cannot be traded in. What you do is limited by the cards in your hand. If your parents are poor and cannot afford to send you to school is does not mean that your future will be an exact replica. I believe that the individual is not a miniature replication of their parents or family. Sure the child may have some similar qualities, but the personality of the individual is solely based on his or her beliefs. It is by choice that the individuals want to portray the characteristics of his or her family. I obtained many qualities from my parents; however, I chose a different path because I wanted to experience different things and learn more about myself. I did not want to be confined to the beliefs and dreams of my parents. You learn from your parents and strive to become a better and more successful person. It is all about choices
In the first meeting of my Freshman Seminar class for the year, a survey titled “What’s My Philosophy of Life” was administered to give the students an idea of what their life’s philosophy is. According to my score, my philosophy is Buddhism. It is based off of the religion and teachings of Buddha. The main idea in the “Noble Eightfold Path is to minimize one’s desires and attachments. Focus on the spiritual rather than the material.” While I agree to a certain extent with my results from the survey in class, my own personal beliefs are a bit different. One of my beliefs of life is that everything happens for a reason. Nothing is ever done in vain and there is a purpose for everything that occurs. While we will never be able to understand why many things in our lives are the way they seem to be, it is just planning out how it was meant. This ties in with my second belief of karma. The old adage “what goes around comes around” is a very meaningful mantra to me. The things we do and how we act definitely affect what occurs in the workings of our life. The most valuable philosophy I harbor within my lifestyle is empathy. If humans would allow themselves to just put themselves into the position of others, I think the world would be a more functioning place. Empathy creates misunderstanding and compassion, which eliminates ignorance and misunderstanding. When it comes down to it, my entire philosophy of life is through living a life that you believe is best, the world will be a more content place to be.
I discovered that my philosophy of life is hedonism. This philosophy states that obtaining pleasure is what one desires the most I would prefer being pleased over being unhappy but who wouldn’t.Though I do enjoy being pleased,I dont belive that its my philosophy of life. I have never been the type to catergorize myself so I dont think that I should do so in this case either.I feel that I can relate to all of the philosophy in some way. Pleasure can be defined in many different ways, because what is pleasing to me may not be to the next person. I also say that hedonism isn’t my philosophy because pleasure is not always what best.If a person never feels pain or always receives satisfaction then they become limited to many things in life. This brings me to the next philosophy stoicism, which states that life is limited and infinte. I dont believe that life has limits,as a matter of fact, I know that the sky is the limit. Existential is my opinion means that life is what you make it. I totally agree with this philosophy because no one can determine your future but yourself. My philosophy can not be determine by one simple outlook because I have many ways that I view life.
Buddhism is the forth philosophy I relate to. It says that suffering is caused by ones desires. When I think about this,it reminds me of greed. If one desires too much or is greedy then in the end the will suffer.
My first week of Freshmen Semenir I learned that my philosophy of life is Existentialism. Which means finding myself and finding the meaning of life through choices that I have to make and things that I have to do on an everyday basis. It also means the person finding out who they are and what they want in life. They do all this based on their past experiences. Which I think describes me perfectly. Not only do I find my self making better plans for my future, but I also find myself trying to find the answer to what life is all about. Its about working hard and never giving up on what you want and need in life. Looking for success and being determined is one thing we all should be aiming for. We all can control our past present and future and there is no one to blame for it but us. Our future is in our hands. Not anyone elses. We have to make the best of it and not think about the negatives in life.
