The first reason why I decided to come to Xavier is because Xavier is known for its pre-med and pre-pharmacy programs. I want to become either an optometrist or ophthalmologist, so I thought Xavier would be a great place to start this journey. The second reason why I came to Xavier is because it’s an Historical Black College/University. I went to a predominately white elementary school and middle school and an equally divided high school, so I wanted to go to a school where there was more of a strong, black, positive culture. My third reason is my scholarship. I received a scholarship that paid for the cost of my tuition. Xavier did not give me the best scholarship offer, but the amount I would have to pay was much cheaper than what I would have to pay if I took the better scholarship offers. I was accepted and received scholarships to Tulane, Johns Hopkins, UAB, Tuskegee, and Dillard. I did not want to go to school in Alabama because I lived there all my life, so declined UAB’s and Tuskegee’s offers. Tulane gave me a nice scholarship, but I still could not afford the remaining cost. Johns Hopkins did not accept me until March, after all the good scholarship money was gone, so I received a horrible scholarship. Then, I did not hear back from Dillard until June, which by that time I had already decided to go to Xavier. I also came to Xavier because it’s in New Orleans. I am from Mobile, which is two hours to the east. So I am not far from home, but I am far enough to feel like I have a sense of independence. Also, I feel that Mobile and New Orleans have similar cultures, so I could adapt quickly. Mobile’s culture is more conservative and not as strong as New Orleans’ culture, but there are many similarities.
In making my decision on what college to go to, I knew automatically that I wanted to attend a Historically Black University. Being raised in an area where African-Americans are the majority, I knew that I would be uncomfortable going to a university where I was the minority. Also, the majority of Historically Black Colleges and Universities have reputations are as good as or better than those of other ethnic majorities. I knew nothing about this university until my Honors Anatomy and Physiology teacher, who is also from New Orleans, told me about the school’s reputation. I was also doing a College Portfolio in which I had to research universities and turn in copies of the applications for the project. So, while doing the project I learned about Xavier’s pre medical and pre pharmacy programs, and their status and I knew that it would be the best choice as far as academically. The location was a compromise because it is pretty close to my home in Houston, but this city carries an interesting reputation in Houston, especially after the events following hurricane Katrina. With that being said, I got a lot of negative feedback about choosing to come to this school. After talking to students who attend the university, I was discouraged by the strict guidelines on campus and the curfew. After a lot of thought, I came to the conclusion that I’m not going to school to party, so I chose the school that would be best for me academically.
Since I was a child, I started thinking about going to Xavier. I am from Louisiana; so taking trips to New Orleans with my family was not a big deal. But every time we would go it seems that we would always pass by “the big school with the green roofs”. I would get so excited as a child and my mom would explain to me that Xavier was that school. She would go on to say that it was a historically black university that was very prestigious. I also wanted to be a doctor. So she explained that if becoming a doctor truly was my dream that is where I should attend school. All throughout high school, I went back and forth on whether I wanted to go out of state or stay in Louisiana. My daddy quickly helped resolve that issue, giving me all sorts of reasons to stay. Then the question came to where should I go in Louisiana. It came down to LSU or Xavier. The two universities are completely different. Did I want small or large? I began to think that Xavier would provide me with better one on one learning. In addition, it would pose much less distractions than LSU. But at the same time, I liked the idea of LSU because I could not imagine school without football. I was a cheerleader in high school and football was a big deal at my school. However, I realized that the main goal of my college experience was my education and attaining my dream of becoming a physician. So, I knew that my best bet was Xavier because they would truly prepare me and guide me along the way.
Xavier University was one of the top colleges I had in mind. I have 5 family members who have and still are attending Xavier University which was something I put into consideration. They would always talk to me about the pharmacy programs that Xavier offers which expanded my interest in finding out more about the pharmacy school. I would get on Xavier’s website and read about what it offers and how academically advanced it is. I really was interested in the diverse cultures that are united on one campus. My goal is to earn a Pharm-D so that when I grow successful I can help provide medicine to those who are in need, such as in Egypt. Helping people get back to their regular health is what I want to do. The medicines proscribed should help every patient in a positive way. When I was in high school it was difficult for me to choose my major I went from wanting to be a lawyer, to a psychiatrist, and finally I chose to become a Pharmacist.
What I really liked about Xavier is that it helps students. There are different kinds of labs, counselors, even other students that provide help. Knowing that I was accepted to Xavier University tells me that I have worked hard throughout my high school years. This shows me that I can accomplish any goal because I have accomplished to attend Xavier University. As a student at Xavier I feel responsible and obligated to work in achieving my career.
The reason that I decided to choose Xavier University was because of the type of environment that I was apart of for all through elementry and high school. I went to a a mostly caucasion school that was also catholic. I felt that I needed to experience something of a different background. Hearing from my sister who also went to Xavier and how she loved the school and all that it brought to her table, it gave me the extra push to be at this Historically Black College and University. The response that her friends made as they told me the different lessons that are learned at Xavier. The talk about the new experiences of going to parties, having fun and all thatis supposed to be experienced at college. My friends that are upper classmen tell me how Xavier change their was as a student for the better and how it taught them to focus on school work. I also choose Xavier because of it being ranked number 1 for its outstanding medical program. This allows me to enjoy the atmosphere and be able to further my career. The opportunites that Xavier brings to the me for medical school is endless and the way they help us get there is what truly made Xavier an easy choice over many other schools. My parents as well had a major part in helping me decided to attend Xavier. To be closer to all my family members, especially my mom and sister and to feel like I return to where I grew up. To only be a call if they needed me for anything made me make that all improtant decision.
I decided to attend Xavier University because of numerous reasons. One of the main reasons why I choose to attend Xavier is their reputation in the department of health and medicine. Their statistics of students who attend medical schools were outstanding and gives me a strong possibility of receiving the correct knowledge to reach my goal. If I am compelled to pay to attend college, I want to be reassured that my money is going to a good place that will help me, which can be guaranteed at Xavier. The campus’s safe community also provides me the comfort I desire to attend college, without the constant anxiety for my life. The faculty and staff appear to be caring and supportive about their student’s safety, which also includes off campus students. They provide assistance during emergencies such as hurricanes or threats. In addition, Xavier also supply the essentials that are needed to guarantee each student’s success, such as free tutoring for students who need help with lessons, notes and papers. They also provide question and answer classes on weekends for students that need more help or practice. Finally, the main factor that pushed me to attend Xavier was the scholarship money. Since my parents aren’t millionaires or doctors, I’m a student that relies on aids that will help me pay for college and get through the necessities. Luckily, Xavier was one of the colleges that had offered me at least half the tuition and, with financial aid and TOPS, I was able to cover the rest of the tuition with a little extra.
chose Xavier because its one of the few school that graduate a high percent of african american sudents. Many people I know attended xavier and they all had great success with going into medical school, and the best part is they actually knew what they was doing. I want my degree to say something and give the world a impression they are not ready for. I wanted to actually have knowledge going into my future career plan and/or goals. My inspiration helped with my choice because they made and i have it in my heart that I can to. As many times I have walked on Xavier ‘s campus I’ve never seen the stydentrs carry themseleves in a bad way. Even after graduation Xavier’s mold shows to be humble, respectful, intelligent and use the brain they filled the knowledge with. With that being said I just really love the atnmosphere of the school. It also was a plus for me that it was close to my home which means that does play a part in me wanting to choose Xavier for its many help resources, the small class sizes and being close to home. Thats why I chose to come to Xavier.
Xavier was always my first choice in picking colleges I wanted to attend. I like the fact that Xavier has a high standard for the Pharmacy program. I’ve always wanted to major in Pharmacy ever since my middle school year. Even in my middle school year I thought about Xavier and here I am today. It is still overwhelming that I am actually a college student and am no longer that 13 year old girl whose goals was to attend Xavier. I also like the environment of Xavier, because it is peaceful and a great place to concentrate on my studies. What I don’t like about Xavier is that the campus is small and there is not many different groups of people. I like to be around a diversity of people because it allows me to understand different types of culture and just experiencing newer things. College life is suppose to be different from high school. In my opinion, my college experience would probaly be better if there were more groups of people and a bigger campus. The only reason I am here is for the high academic Pharmacy program that Xavier has to offer. In the near future, I hoped for the best while attending Xavier and accomplishing my goals.
I chose Xavier because it is one of the top HBCU’s in the country. I wasn’t sure at first if it was the right school to pursue a career in accounting, but as I did furthe research, I found that Xavier actually have classes which prepare for the CPA exam (one of my goals to achieve). And that students who have graduated from Xavier with a degree in Accounting earn a six digit salary in corporations such as
the Internal Revenue Service and Coca Cola. And unlike a lot of HBCUs Xavier seems to be quite diverse in culture. So I am very happy I chose Xavier as the school for me.
I chose to attend Xavier for many reasons. First, During my high school years, my counselor showed me many different colleges that i could attend. We also had many college visits so each student can personally talk to a representative for that college. I always wanted to be in the science area. So she showed me the main schools that had great Chemistry, Pre-Pharmacy and Biology, Pre-Med. curriculum. As my high school years ended I realized that I wanted to become a pharmacist. Of all the Colleges Xavier University was the one that took my interest the most. Therefore, when it was time to apply for college Xavier University was my number one choice. I did not want to go anywhere else. I love how Xavier sets up the Chemistry classes. Xavier offers a lot of information and targets the main material that students like me need to learn. Another reason why I chose Xavier is because it is home in New Orleans. I do not think I would make it if i went out of state for college. Being at home in a familiar environment helps me stay focused. Finally, I chose Xavier because Xavier is a smaller college and I see a lot of familiar faces. I have been going to small schools all my life. I learn better in a smaller classroom setting than i would with over a hundred students in class at once. Since Xavier is a small, good school for Pharmacy and near home I guess it is safe to say that i got 3 for the price of one!
One of the main reasons I chose Xavier I heard it was one of the best universities for pre-med majors and pharmacy. I wanted to go for pre-med because my dream is to become a doctor. Tulane University is also one of the best universities for pre-med majors and pharmacy but it’s too expensive. Plus, I got a scholarship from Xavier so it is all the more reason for me to go Xavier. Another reason I chose Xavier because I applied for the Howard Hughes Summer program in order take summer class for Chemistry. They paid for summer tuition, books, and supplies. So it was pretty nice to get college credit without the need to pay anything. Loyola was also one of my choices for college but I found out it was more into law. My three choices for college were close to home. I would rather stay home and drive to college and not live in the dorms. I get to have my own space and privacy at home so that there aren’t any distractions when I’m studying or doing homework. I Also think I might get homesick if I stayed at the dorms. More importantly, everything I need is at home so won’t have to worry about buying hygiene products, new clothes, new shoes, or my dental things. Ok,moving onto the advantages of being an Xavier student. Xavier University is small compared to other universities so the students can have more time to seek help from professors after lectures. There is also tutoring available at Xavier so it’s really convenient to stop by if I don’t understand something in class. Well, that wraps it up.
Many people have always wondered why I wanted to attend Xavier. Every since I was younger I have always wanted to attend Xavier university of Louisiana because they are known to have a good Pharmacy program. I use to attend New Orleans Charter Middle School which was located up the street from Xavier. When I use to catch the bus home sometimes I would say to my friends, “That is my future school!” Sure enough it was. I decided to attend Xavier for many reasons. My number one reason was because of my major. My family, my mother, and guidance counselors were telling me that Xavier is the best school to attend in preparation for Pharmacy School. I also wanted to attended Xavier because I received TOPS. In order for my TOPS award to go through, I had to attend a school in Louisiana. Another reason I choose Xavier was because I received a scholarship from the school. I know I am smart, but honestly I didn’t think I would receive a scholarship from the school. When I received the large envelope titled Xavier University of Louisiana I was nervous because I wanted to know what was inside of it. When I read the first couple of sentences I screamed then I read some more and almost fainted. I was so happy BECAUSE Xavier was my first choice.
People wonder why I chose Xavier. Some people say that they have never heard of this school. Some people wonder why I wanted to attend a private school. Others wondered why I would choose a school that was, somewhat, recently involved in a memorable natural disaster. I decided that I wanted to attend Xavier. Xavier is known for the great opportunity you have of being accepted into pharmacy school here.Xavier is number one for graduating pharmacists and doctors that are African American.I wanted my resume to say that I am a graduate of Xavier College of New Orleans. I believe this would be impressive to future employers. The student-teacher ratio per class is excellent. Xavier is one big family. Everyone helps one another. I heard of this school from my friend’s older sister. She attends this school. I was curious how such a profound school could succesfully coexist in a city filled with distractions. I like the challenge of focusing in such and exciting, reinventing city. My father didn’t agree with me attending Xavier. He felt that I could not handle the responsibility. Xavier was my first choice. When I received an acceptance letter and a scholarship, it was hard for my dad to tell me no. The acceptance to this school was important for my family, because it helped my parents to understand that I am becoming an adult. I wanted to move away from home to gain responsibility for myself. This is an important step towards adulthood. I feel that if I can handle this,I can handle anything.
Why did I choose to come to Xavier? I chose to come to Xavier because I have heard good things about Xavier from my relatives that have graduated and are still attending. They told me that Xavier has an excellent program that helps the students build a close teacher to student relationship. I currently have three cousins and one brother that attend Xavier. Two of my cousins are biology pre-med majors. My other cousin and my brother are currently in their first year of pharmacy school. They have spoken highly of the school and what it has to offer. I intend to major in biology pre-med just like my cousins. They told me that Xavier gives one great insight into the medical field. They also told me that Xavier challenges you to do your best and work for what you really want in life. Xavier offered me a full scholarship that alleviated some financial issues from my parents. Going to Xavier was much more convenient than going to LSU because my dad owns a transmission shop and I help him after school. By going to Xavier I can be at home to help my family and set a good example for my siblings. I also have a little brother who goes to Jesuit and a little sister who goes to St. Mary’s Dominican. Because of this, I am able to pick them up which takes some stress off of my parents. Xavier is an excellent school that allows one to graduate with a greater understanding of how the world works.
Xavier is a place to be. A place I can call home. Everyone here is so generous, energetic, and caring. I am glad that I chose Xavier as my primary college. My goal was set when I first step on Xavier’s campus. My goal is to become a pharmacist. Xavier is known for its pharmaceutical programs. The first day of class I was afraid that I wouldn’t make any friends. It seems that I was wrong. Everyone here is so nice. I made friends everywhere I go. The teachers are cool to especially my freshman seminar teacher. I think he is funny. Yeah, Xavier is a place to be. I want to graduate from Xavier. Man school is tough sometimes, but I am ready for whatever. I will graduate.
I came to Xavier because it is the best Pharmacy school in the nation and for my education i want nothing less than the best. I also came because it was in my hometown and I knew that i would not have problems with finding my class are getting around town. It is also an HBCU. While I looking over my college options it became very clear to me that Xavier was where i wanted to be. Its over come so much. It was one of the first colleges in the New Orleans area to be back after Katrina. That is the type of drive and motivation that I hope Xavier will instill in me. I also like the people who are around while I’mon the Xavier campus. They are very hardworking and dedicated students. There were also alot of people who influenced me to go to Xavier. One of them was my Math teacher at Loyola’s Upward Bound program. She was one of my favorite teachers and she is well respected by here student around the Jefferson Parish area. Almost her whole family went to Xavier and she really explained some of the things the Xavier had to offer me. Since I got to Xavier I’ve seen that i was right in choosing Xavier for my college education. I only have a few things that i dont like about though. One of things that i dont like about Xavier is that the teachers rely on email to much. My Xavier experince is going very well so far.
Why did I come to Xavier? Well to be completely honest Xavier wasn’t even on my mind. Im from California and I therefore had many great colleges to choose from. But being as picky as I am, I disliked all f the UCs and Cal states. It took me forever to even get one college on the list of colleges I really wanted to go to and even then the only college that was n that list was The University of Washington. But even after not getting into that school, i had settled for something near home. I had never ben interested in coming to a historical black college, ever. So when I was offered a full scholarship to come to Xavier, having never filled out an application and even after the deadline for applications, I decided to do some research. I thought that here, in the south, is the last place i would find myself going to college. I had thought about the east coast, up north and even staying home. But going to school in the south never crossed my mind because I assumed it just wasn’t for me. But coming from California, a greeeeat place, I found Louisiana to be a much more warm and sincere place than back home. I love the food and the culture here and I am so glad that this opportunity was presented to me because this is the exact path that i should be on in order to become exactly who i want to be.
Honestly I never thought I would ever end up here. I have visited Xavier many times bc I had some friends that graduated from here. All through out High School I wanted to go to George Mason in VA. Senior year in high school my family was planing on moving to North Carolina and thats where my parents wanted to me go to school, so i would be close to home and wouldnt have to live on campus. I applied to many places. And out of all of them I decided to go to NCState and through out senior year thats where I knew I was going, untill Feb. came along and dad found business in New Orleans and moved here. My mom told me to apply to Xavier and see if I got in and I did. And she said thats where I would be going. After graduation and the summer we moved to New Orleans with dad and thats how I ended up here.
I first learned of Xavier my freshman year of high school. My biology teacher and I developed a strong teacher student relationship and one day he asked me what my plans were in life. I told him my plans and he told about Xavier. He is an alumnus of Xavier and told me all the great things Xavier had to offer. After he told me about it I looked into myself. I was impressed by there outstanding reputation and felt as though I wanted to be a part. I was also interested in the location. Being from Maryland, I knew this experience would be a bit of a cultural change and I was excited to see how I would adapt to it. As my high school journey continued my interest in the school grew. I began taking the necessary actions to ensure I would be accepted into this institution of higher learning in which my heart desired. I stayed on top of my grades and made sure I had extracurricular activities and honors to make myself stand out above other students in the eyes of Xavier. I applied to Xavier before I applied to any other school. I was accepted and knew this was where I was going to be. I encountered a few mile stones on the way, but spring semester of 2008 I began my college experience at Xavier University and here I am today. My experience thus far had been a life changing and positive one and I know made the right choice when I chose to be a student here.
I chose to come to Xavier for many reasons. my first reason is because it is a very strategic black which means that it is a historically black college. I have always wanted to go to Xavier since I was little girl. It has always been my nuber pick for the colleges that I have wanted to attend. Even though it is expensive you can get your loans differed until you graduate. The money that you could make from attending Xavier is awesome. Anothe rreason I wanted to attend this school because it has a high expectancy fopr grades. If you Xavier on your resume you are most likely to get the job because they are known for their programs. It is also a private scholl which means that there will not be too many distractions. There are many tutors for your classes. Xavier is the number one scholl for for pharmacy. Their pharmacy program is awesome. There are also many different clubs and organizations that you can join. It is a very disciplined school, and it does not tolerate drugs or violence. Overall this is the school for me because I know that at Xavier I can go through many obstacles that a can make me a strong professional woman. I love Xavier because it is where I want to be.
Why did I choose to go to Xavier? I made the choice to attend Xavier University, because I think that it would better me in life. When I graduated from high school I did not want to leave my home town just yet. This made the decision to pick an institution nearby home and at the same time useful to my successful career. Everybody wants to be the next doctor or lawyer or work in the medical field. I wanted something different but still successful. Xavier University is known worldwide for not only their academic achievement but for their college of pharmacy. How many people grow up saying I want to be a pharmacist? Not many people. With math and science being my favorite subjects, why not pick pharmacy as my major? It is also a private HBCU university which makes very few distractions. There are many tutors whenever you need help with assignments for your classes. With all of its good qualities of attending the university I chose Xavier University for pharmacy. I am proud to walk this campus to my rise in my successful career. At Xavier I will undergo my obstacles that a will make me a strong professional woman. Being close to home and becoming successful you can’t beat that. I love Xavier and it’s where I want to be.
I chose Xavier because it is one of the top HBCU’s in the country. I wasn’t sure at first if it was the right school to pursue a career in accounting. Knowing that this school has a great reputation for Pharmacy and Pre-Med, but as I did further research, I found that Xavier actually have classes in accounting which prepare for the CPA, (Certified Public Accountant), exam (one of my goals to achieve), and that students who have graduated from Xavier with a degree in Accounting earn a six digit salary in corporations such as the Internal Revenue Service and Coca Cola. And unlike a lot of HBCUs Xavier seems to be quite diverse in culture. Having a meeting with the business head of this school made me feel secure in knowing that they will do the very best they can for me to succeed; if I work hard and achieve the things I know I must. I am secure in knowing that when I graduate I will have acquired all that is necessary to prosper in this economy. Not only will I have the knowledge but the skills far greater and more in dept than others. I am assured that Xavier will prepare me in such a way that I will have attained skills that are unique and competitive. Also I have learned that unlike other schools Xavier offers Arab as a language, which I find will be unique as a quality on a resume. So I am very happy I chose Xavier as the school for me.
Xavier University did not become one of my college choices until I became a part of the summer programs at the university. It was my eight grade year when my math teacher informed me of Math Star. Math Star is a program at Xavier for students going into Algebra I and gives the student an advantage of being more prepared for his or her class. Before attending this program I was not sure about Xavier’s campus or the people, but when I got there the students and faculty were speaking so highly of the university that I wanted to attend another program. I have attended four summer programs at Xavier and now I am a part of the Xavier family. Once I arrived at Xavier’s campus I was a little skeptical about the size. My perception of college was loads of people and an enormous campus, but Xavier University is the exact opposite of my assumption. The campus is small and comfortable but there are still numerous activities to get involved in. The student teacher ratio is about twenty to one. This gives the individual the opportunity to get the full attention of his or her teacher. Xavier University is also known as the number one university for putting African Americans in Pharmacy and Medical school. When I became aware of the statistics of putting African Americans in Pharmacy school I immediately applied to the university. I now attend Xavier University and it is everything i expected it to be.
Ever since I was a young girl, having a job in the field of medicine has always been a dream of mine. Although the type of occupation has changed throughout the years, the medical industry has always been the common denominator. When it came down to choose a college to attend towards the end of my high school, there were many decisions that had to be made. Through many hours of searching and visiting, I finally concluded that Xavier was the right school for me. The primary reason I chose Xavier as my school of choice was because of its reputation for such a strong school for the sciences. It is ranked (as it has been for many years now) as the number one school in placing African-Americans in medical school. With the ultimate of goal of becoming an ophthalmologist, I knew this would be a beneficial move on my part. Another thing that attracted me to Xavier was its location. I am a native New Orleanian who has lived here all of my life and I was not ready to leave home just yet. Besides, New Orleans is still working on recovering from Hurricane Katrina and I would like to be apart of the effort in any way I can. Finally, I chose Xavier because of the cost. I was given a full tuition scholarship to come to Xavier, along with other various scholarships and grants, making my education here virtually free. Gotta love that eh? With that being said, as far as I can see, I have made a great choice in selecting Xavier University as my home for the next four years.
I have always wanted a career in a field that involved working with others and also had medicine incorporated.I was influecened to pursue this career by my mother because she is a registered nurse. I chose Xavier because it is known for it’s pre-medical and pre- pharmacy programs. So I felt that it was only right that I attended the school, because I want to become an anesthesiologist some day. When I was younger I often said that I wanted to attend either Clark University or Howard University. After a little research, those colleges were no longer options. Furthermore, hearing all the wonderful things about how great Xavier was narrowed those choices to just this one school. By the time I became a freshman in high school my mind was set on attending Xavier no matter what the expenses were. After waiting the long days and nights for that special year to come it finally came. When my senior year of high school came around, Xavier was the only school that I applied to. It was kind of a hope as well as a demand to get into Xavier because I definitely did not want to be stuck at home. Many people say that applying to only one school is not a good decision because it limits your options. People often say that whatever your heart is set on you should go for it so not applying to another school did not phase me. My mind was made up that Xavier was the best and only place for me.
