St. Katherine Drexel founded Xavier University in 1925. At Founder’s Day, I was able to feel the overall pride and tradition of the university especially within the choir and the singing of the Alma Mater. A lot has changed since Xavier’s founding, however, the same principles that Xavier was founded on still exist today. The mission of Xavier is to promote a more just and humane society. This mission is still one of the main goals of the institute. Xavier grads are expected to change their communities through the skills and knowledge of their careers that they gained through the university. Katherine Drexel was inherited around $20 million which is considered a huge chunk of change now…so I can only imagine how much it was worth then. She decided to invest this money in the education of African Americans and Native Americans. She has been canonized a saint within the last decade. Therefore, Xavier University is the only university canonized by a saint. In addition, it is the only nationally black, catholic university. I think today Katherine Drexel would be very proud of her institute. Not only has it grown, but it has become a nationally acclaimed college with an outstanding leader, President Norman C. Francis. Xavier is a liberal based university which means that much of the issues that the world faces is tackled within the classroom discussions. In addition, Xavier is known for its excellence in the sciences as well as its outstanding pharmacy school. It has educated an enormous number of African Americans, as well as other minorities since it has been founded. Katherine Drexel would be very pleased.
Katherine drexel was a caucasean woman who inherited twenty million dollars from her family. She could have done many things with her money, but instead she founded a a school with her money. She founded Xavier University in 1925. She was also canadized as a saint. Xavier is the only school in the country to be founded by a saint. She wanted to open up opportunities for education for Native Americans and African Americans. Katherine Drexel was born in 1858 and she died in 1955. She is known as an inspiring philanthropist. she has done many thing for charity and she is a very christian woman. xavier is not only an historically black college, but it is also a catholic school. Xavier is known as a a very highly educated school where we show leadership. Katherine set up this school to build leaders. We are one of the number one pharmacy schools in the country. We are also a very diverse college. People from all over the world attend Xavier because they believe that will a promising education. This school holds many history. Katherine fought so that this school could be built. No matter what Katherine was going to make a change. she beleived that everyone deserved an education. At first all the classes were taught by saints until Norman C. Francis reigned and then came the lay professors. He opened a science duilding after following in Katherine Drexel’s footstep. I believe that she sid a wonderful job and she would be so proud of her achievements and what she has done for Xavier.
I believe that if Katharine Drexel were still alive today she would be extremely proud. She founded Xavier so that blacks could receive an equal and fair education, and we have surpassed her goal. The education given at Xavier competes with other top ranked school, including other HBCU’s and non-HBCU’s. We are number one for producing black doctors. How many schools can say that? Xavier is no longer equal to other schools. It is on a higher level. A level that might have surprised and thrilled Katharine Drexel had she lived to see it. I don’t know if she envisioned Xavier to be the university that it today, but I know without a doubt that Katharine Drexel has to be proud. Xavier could have turned out to be some crummy school where people went to only as a last resort, but it is not. People who want to become doctors or pharmacists consider Xavier as a top choice, and that is something to be proud of. Sometimes I wonder if the fact that Katharine Drexel was a nun and is a saint helped the success of Xavier. We are a religious school, and I believe that religion and education do not necessarily go hand and hand but there is a relationship present. I know Katharine Drexel would be proud of Xavier the school, but I wonder what she would think of the student body. I have the impression that Katharine Drexel was a very conservation woman, and I just wonder what she would have to say if she walked around the campus for a day. I guess it would be exactly what our parents say about our generation, but it would be interesting to know. Even though, I am uncertain on how Katharine Drexel would feel about the students currently enrolled at Xavier, I know she has to be proud of all the things Xavier has accomplished.
When Katherine Drexel was alive, she was born into a wealthy family. She inherits a great amount of wealth, which she distributed to charity because she believes that everyone should have a chance to learn. She was the founder of Xavier University. If she was alive today, she would be proud of her accomplishments. She made it possible for everyone in this institution to be enlightened by teachers all around the world. Right now, she probably is looking down at Xavier with a big smile on her face. Xavier was not the only institution. She donated too many charities all around the world. After she distributed her wealth to charity, she became a nun. She founded the Sister of the Blessed Sacraments. She committed her life putting effort to give people a chance to learn. Because of her good deeds, she was canalized as a SAINT in year 2000.
If Katherine Drexel was still she would think that Xavier was worth every penny of her money still today. Xavier has become one of the leading colleges in Pharamacy. Xavier has made plenty of accomplishments and has thrived through some of the worst circumstances and still came up on top. It went through Katrina and its still one of leading schools in the nation. I think she would be extremely proud of its stundents and the dedicaiton and hard work that they show and promote. She would be proud of how they work together and help each other out. The only that might make her mad is the price of tution lol.
Katherine Drexel was still she would think that Xavier was worth every penny of her money still today. Xavier has become one of the leading colleges in Pharmacy. No but really it really is high. But still in all i think she would be very proud of the school. I think its everything that she wanted it to be.Its not only one of leading HBCU in the nation but one of the leading Unviersities in the nation. You got everyones helping each other it really defines how she livied her life. Its just a beautiful atmosphere to be in. The schools is so unqiue in every which way you decide to look at it. The teachers are wonderful. Walking around the school you can really tell and feel that it was founded by a saint. It just has a warm feeling to it. Its just an all around good school its a place that a person such as myself just love to be.It promotes learning at the highest level and it promotes humane awareness, its just wonderful. The founders day was amazing i cant to become and to be able to take part in that.
Saint Katherine Drexel was a daughter of a philanthropist. Her father was a very wealthy banker. Saint Katherine Drexel was interested in education. She had inherited money from her father and decided to use this money towards good things. Saint Katherine Drexel is a good role model, and others should follow her and look up to her. If Saint Katherine Drexel was here today I think she would be very proud and feel accomplished, as the founder of Xavier University. Many students come to Xavier in seek of a good education to pursue their hopes and dreams for the future. Xavier University is known for sending many students to Med school and Pharmacy school. Even though Katherine Drexel is not with us physically, she is still present spiritually among all of us. Saint Katherine Drexel would be proud of how far we have come since she founded Xavier University. She would be proud of all the workers at Xavier University who contribute so much to each students education. She would also be happy that so many students want to attend Xavier University because of education provided here. Katherine would also feel very honored because every year we have a founders day celebration in remembrance and celebrating her. She is also one of the few people to accomplish so much in her life time. Not only did she accomplish so much during her life time, shortly after she passed away, she became canonized.
Saint Katherine Drexel could have done many things with her money, but instead she started a school. If she was alive today. She would be very proud of how far Xavier has came. Xavier is the only school in this country to be founded by a saint. And a really good school for Pharmacy. She would be proud of all the hard work everyone has put in. Xavier has founders day to remember her and all her hard work into making the school what it is today. She gave students at Xavier an opportunity to follow their dreams and become doctors or whatever they want to do with their lives after graduation. Because of all her hard work and dedication toward the school she was chosen to be a Saint.
St. Katherine Drexel would come to Xavier University and see that what she started is still in effect. That what she gave to the community is still up and running, especially when it cold of failed. I also believed that she would come back and be proud because of the staff and the students. That each teacher strives for each student to excel no matter how much time they have to put in for that student. Also that each teacher cares as if the is one of their own kids. Other colleges have teachers that just tell their students what they have to do and when its do. Not as much teaching and one on one attention with the student, but at Xavier the teachers drive on working one on one with students in the different labs. Another reason is the diversity. The school is made up of every and any race of students, all getting along. From starting as a school for just African Americans and Native Americans, Xavier branched out with open arms to Asian, Hispanics, African American, Caucasians, Native Americans and others. That all our accepted to receive an education. This allows Xavier to grow just as the community is growing and allow the great lessons taught by the school be received by all that go to Xavier. St. Katherine Drexel would also appreciate how affordable Xavier is to other colleges. Many colleges expect a student to pay much money with little help but when it comes to Xavier they work with the students to find ways to pay for tuition.
Saint Katherine Drexel was a white woman of action, selflessness, and courageousness. She lived in a Philadelphia, born in 1858 and died 1955. She was nine- seventy years old when she died. She inherited millions of dollars and decided to build a college for the less fortunate African and Native Americans. She realized that the African and Native Americans were being marginalized and thought that it was unjust. Therefore, she took her money and time and spent it making a solution to the problem. The Mission Statement at Xavier University was derived from the motive of Saint Katherine Drexel. The mission statement promotes individuals to assume leadership roles. The statement also wants to educate students to be able to go out into the world and not just be their occupation, but contribute to make society more just and humane. Xavier University was located in Uptown New Orleans where Xavier Prep is presently located. The SBS founded Xavier University on October 7, 1920. The school was run by the SBS (Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament) until the 60s when it was passed down from the sisters to lay people. Saint Katherine Drexel was canonized in 2000 for her extraordinary deeds to help the unjust society of New Orleans. In order to be canonized one has to perform three miraculous deeds. If Saint Katherine Drexel did not take the initiative to make educational plans for the African Americans I would not be able to attend one of the most prestigious and well known schools in the United States. Xavier University is known for putting 99% of its students into Medical and Pharmacy school. This school produces role models for the young and old.
Katherine Drexel was born in November 1858 and died in 1955. She was a dedicated saint who devoted most of her time and money to the needs of African Americans and Native Americans in the United States of America. She started the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament and founded many missions and schools. Xavier’s main goal is to promote a more just and humane society. By attending Xavier I realized the faculty and students treat people on a certain level. I feel they are trying to prepare us for society and the work force. If Saint Katherine Drexel were to visit Xavier University today, I also wonder what she would be thinking. I hope she would say that the school looks great because as I walk around campus, I notice the clean environment, but besides that Xavier is the only college that is “Black and Catholic.” It is also know for their pre-med program and pharmacy school. The pre-med program is designed to prepare students for the MCAT test. There is also a pre-pharmacy program that is designed to prepare students for Pharmacy school. Xavier also has a good basketball team. Xavier’s basketball team has won many games in the pass. I think she would also like how there are many different plans for us each day at the University Center. That’s what I like most because it makes living on campus a little fun. Xavier also has a good curriculum and has high percentages for the number of blacks that’s graduating. I can list a lot of things that Katherine Drexel will like about Xavier and the face that the school is still an HBCU and Catholic.
If St. Katherine Drexel was still alive today, she would be extremely proud of the accomplishments that Xavier have achieved. St. Katherine had invested her money to Xavier by determining her life to established a university for African Americans and Native Americans. Because of her generosity and determination, African Americans and Native Americans were able to have success and the same opportunities as others. Today, Xavier University is known for its outstanding achievement in getting many students in medical schools and providing a life opportunity. St. Katherine would also be proud of the culture and its surrounding of Xavier University. Her investment in Xavier University was worth every penny. Her actions gave hoped to those who were not able to have the equality of education as the whites during her time. It takes a lot of courage and compassion to be able to give up one’s own life to others. Today Xavier will continue its achievement and culture that will go on for years. I am blessed to be able to attend Xavier University and to be able to make my years of college experience memorable. In the near future, I hoped to achieved success that Xavier has to offer and to take advantage of every opportunity. I am also blessed to be apart of its culture. It is very exciting knowing I am attending a university that is historically well-known. Even in my graduate years I will be thankful that Xavier has helped me to go far in my education. I am sure many will feel the same way. There is no doubt St. Katherine Drexel would be disappointed. Even if she is not here today to see what is occurring at Xavier, the tradition of Xavier will go on.
If Katherine Drexel was still alive today she would feel proud to have put her money into a fine institution such as this. Xavier is a very successful college that has progressed over the years to be one of the top institutions to graduate African-American pharmacists and physicians. Xavier is still based on the beliefs that Katherine Drexel had and it shows through the hard work of the students who attend this school. Because of her, minorities were able to receive quality education in a time where equality wasn’t possible. She believed in equal opportunity. Katherine Drexel didn’t care how she was perceived for her original thoughts and personal beliefs. She stood by them. Her investment is not in vain. I am grateful for the opportunity she has given me to attend this school. The tradition of Xavier is still alive and I was impressed hearing the history of my school. It is interesting to me that a white woman could believe in black people and Native Americans enough to create a school for us. This speaks volumes about her personal beliefs. I believe that she exemplified leadership through her actions. She was definitely a leader, and through her leadership, she has created Xavier into a school of leadership. Hopefully by attending Xavier, I will continue the tradition by becoming a leader in my field of study.
If St.Katherine Drexel were alive today, I believe should would be truly please with the progress that Xavier has made. She would be honored to know that she founded a stable and well known institution. She would be thrilled to know that Xavier is one number for placing African Americans into medical school. St Katherine Drexel has given blacks the oppurtunity to the be best because Xavier has high standards and refuses to see their students fail. She would also be proud to know that she created a school that is known world wide for its phenomial pharmacy program. At the Founder’s day ceromony, I learned that some people have dedicated over thirty years to Xavier and still contribute time to the institution. Just as I was amazed I’m sure she would be as well. Though Xavier is a catholic school, St.Katherine Drexel would be happy to known many other religions attend the school and there is much diversity on the campus. Not only has she open doors for African Americans but for people of other races too. Xavier is no longer ran by nuns, but they do still have input on how Xavier is operated . St Katherine Drexel would be proud to known that the tradtions remain the same though there are different administers today. The twenty millions dollars she put into this establishment has well worth it and I’m pretty sure that if she were to look at Xavier 100 years from now she say the same.
The Founder of Xavier University Saint Katherine Drexel was a woman with riches who could have done anything with her inheritance money, but chose to do one excellent thing. Having a cold heart towards individuals who denied people of their education and learning or even ones who just discriminated towards certain people made her help in way a to change the world. She decided to take a stand and developed one of the best universities in the nation. This particular school would able many people to have opportunities they once did not have. Starting one the most powerful historical black college and universities in the nation the opening of Xavier University would begin her happiness. Xavier is a HBCU that graduates many successful and educated black students today. Minorities now have hope in fulfilling their dreams and expanding their knowledge at a glorious institute. Xavier is not your ordinary school it has a different resources that betters each and every one of their students here: such as tutoring labs, well and highly trained teachers who love their jobs, alumni support and parent support. Comparing this institute to others it was a phenomenal idea to start something like this. This university put many students in medical school allowing them to give back and serve their country in unique ways. Not only do they feed you with knowledge but Xavier teaches you different essentials in life that allows you to live it well, enjoy it and be thankful for it. When you say you are a Xavierite that title automatically demands respect. Still to this day Xavier is constantly finding different ways to help and better their school and always rising up with graduating numbers. With saying this yes I believe and feel Saint Katherine is happy with her stand for this school and is very proud of every part that makes this institution.
I think that if Katharine Drexel were still alive, I think she would be so proud to see how far the university has come. I think she would be amazed at the fact that the contributions that she made has made such a large impact on not only the lives of those who attended the school, but overall a large impact on the city of New Orleans. She would probably be very happy with the school’s reputation and the fact that the school attracts so many people from everywhere. Overall she would be shocked to see how fast her establishment has grown since the time when she first began. I think she would be surprised that the diversity of the student body has grown so widely. She probably never would have expected for people from outside of the minority races to actually want to come to a school that was founded for minorities. I know for sure that she would be excited to see that the money that could have been used to do anything else in the world was used to change the lives and the futures of so many others. She would truly know the extent of her effectiveness by seeing the expansion of the school. I think overall she would just be shocked and amazed. She would actually get to see the impact that she has made in my life and everyone else that has been touched by the existence of our University.
Katharine Drexel would be absolutely amazed at how great Xavier is today. It is one of the top schools to graduate African Americans who succeed in the medical majors. It has great attribute to all minorities. The diversity today will be an eye opener. Xavier is more mixed than a lot of other Historically Black Colleges or Universities. Even after Katrina students have found thousands of reasons to return or accept Xavier. The staff is impeccable, and happy to assist anyone who wants to be a success story of Xavier. The academics are challenging and I feel as if I will leave just as competitive as anyone graduating from any school. The courses required are ones that will prepare individuals for the world outside of this campus. The teach students to be leaders and encourage us to take the front seat as the driver on the bus and not a passenger. They allow us to envision a future bright with opportunity without letting us forget to work hard. Staff wants us to exceed the normality of the world and dare to be different. Dare to come into a room and be the center of attention, unafraid to express our feeling intelligently. Set the trend and create an atmosphere to our own particular vibe and beat. As an African American student I am no longer aware of my race but feel as if I am in control of my own future. Using the knowledge granted to me by this University and the manners and attitude of home I will prosper. I am proud to be at Xavier and if Miss. Drexel were alive today she would be overwhelmed with pride.
