Blog Post #7: “My Thoughts about the 2008 Presidential Election” Wednesday, Oct 29 2008

I feel that this presidential election is one of the most important election ever. This is a critical election for our country. We have a big finical crisis on wal street. The counrty feels like its in a recession. And were very close to being in a depression. We are in a very stupid war in iraq that is straining our countries budget its really killing us. Their are just so many different issues. Plus we have a ninja turtle looking candiate in Mccain. He looks like a smaller version of Fat Bastard on Austion Powers. They way he talks drives me sometimes i just want to call him and tell him shut up. He runing mate wats her face sucks. She has so many issues wit her own family so how are we going to put her second in charge of the country when she cant even contol her family. Plus she from Alaska what does she know about the rest of the country. She sucks. And Obama likes the candiate sent from heaven and not just because he black cause Bill Clinton was the first black president. I mean look at Bill he cheated on his wife and he had them people{the man}all on his back he was a true American Gangster he has to be half black. But anyway obama in 08 it has a little ring to it. But yall vote Obama and not that Ninja Turtle Mccain.
I can not vote I am young and that sucks which is one of my main feelings towards the election.
When you ask me for my thoughts I would like to really analyze what is going on to me. This is important because I feel it could possibly make or break the American nation as we see it today. Both candidates are looking at a big position filled with mess and one of them has to clean it up. YES, it is a big deal because the first time ever and black male made it to the point where we can pick his name for the presidential spot. So it is big accomplishment in history out of 43 presidents I am ready to for this opportunity. Of course that is not the only reason with everything going on the war, stock markets crashing, business going under along with jobs being lost, high gas prices, food prices, and the cost of living period we need an amazing platform. My thoughts would say Obama has provided a plan or a solution to fix these problems which is what we need. All of our jobs should not be out of the country that is less opportunity for us and that makes things higher in price which we do not need. I think everyone is excited for the idea of change and it really looks as if we will be going somewhere good if we pick the right person. My idea is the nation is in chaos and we need help this election is important because this determines what will happen for the next possible four years
First and foremost I want to start off by saying, “OBAMA 4 YO MAMA”. I am so very excited to be participating in this historic election. I can’t wait to tell my kids about this one! I remember when I was in the 5th grade in the year 2000, and I was calculating how many years it would be until I was able to do all the great things that I thought could be done at the age of 18. Smoking, clubbing, college, living outside of the home and voting. Back at that time I never realized how important it was to participate in politics. I thought it was so boring and that it didn’t really matter that much, but now that I am here and the time for change is now, I feel that the importance is so great! I think that our generation is finally realizing that the decisions that we make today will affect the whole world in the long run. Our children and their children will be affected by the choices that we make today. On the down side, I believe that this election has in a way increased racial tension, and has shown many other people that racism is still alive. Too many people are letting skin color taint their views, and are not even paying much attention to individual platforms. It makes me kind of nervous how things are going to be when the results are announced.
As a black person, I assume I should feel a special way about this election. It is an overwhelming feeling I cannot quite describe. Today as I stood in line for three hours to vote. I imagined how the older African American citizens must feel. Whereas they were born into a time of great racial divide the hard and studios work of unfair opportunities wore on there faces. Yet a gleam of pride and hope knowing that they were the ones to make this possible. That they were the encouragement need for all of the youth to be standing here in more abundance than any other election. It is a great and historic time!! Not only for blacks, but I feel as if this election will determine the future of this country. Obama is black, but his qualifications and desire of change is what makes him more appealing. For the pass eight years people have been living in great dismay. I have been affected and I have witnessed the devastation of our government. A fresh start is in order. And with the right person this country just may have a chance to insure a prospering future of all. Filled with opportunity and virtue. America may feel free to restore values that use to be important like justice, freedom, and fairness. Giving people the divine right to live a life of their desire without political stress. Knowing that their government will be on their side in all areas, and that we, the citizens are first and foremost on the list of security.
As the election approach, sometimes I question what will the future be like and will the candidates live up to their responsibility. I really didn’t get a clear picture, so until Election Day, I will never know. This race has everyone on the edge of their chairs because no one knows how the presidential election will turnout. Some people think they know, but I’m just waiting for the final results. My reason is because there have been a lot of cheating in the previous races and this race also. This is one of the most important races in history, and I am glad to be part of it by being allowed to vote. In the beginning, I was surprised to see a female run for that position even though she dropped out of the race towards the end. The main candidates that are still in the race, McCain and Obama, both have different approaches to issues like taxes, health care, medicaid, medicare and more. All of those things are very important and it will change no matter who gets in the White House. The change may be good or bad. By listening to their views and plans, I decided who I was going to vote for. Both of the candidates are working hard to win over people’s vote. This year, the candidates have spent a lot of time and money in this race because it really is important to them. I hope the better candidate and the one that worked the hatdest wins.
History has been made!!! I have never felt so elated and victorious in my life! My president is Barack Obama. He represents complete change. Not only is he going to make an outstanding president, but he will lead our country out of this hardship. The 44th president of the United States is black; I will finally get to see a picture of a black man as president. We did it…Today will be one of the most memorable days of my life. I was able to vote for the first time today. I waited in line for two hours and every second was worth it for the moment that they announced his name. One of the many dreams of America has been fulfilled. I am proud of his overall campaign. President Obama truly brought the change that we need. Despite this monumental moment, there will still be many people who will hate and show their true colors. The overall 2008 election has been filled with many firsts from the election of a black president to the possibilities of a woman serving as vice-president. In addition, I like the changes that he wants to bring to the White House. He will help the middle class instead of focusing on the major corporations. Yes, big companies play a huge part in our economy; however, we the people, the consumers, decide the overall outcome. And Barack recognizes this. He will also focus on getting our troops safely home after a long and unnecessary war.
I never sign up to vote. I guess I’m missing out. What people was saying on the streets made me want to vote, but it was too late. I guess I’ll wait for the next election.
I hear most African-American people say, “If he wins, we cry. If he loses, we die.” This election has to be important. People stand in line for three of more hours just to cast their votes. The election will decide the country’s future. Obama has a plan to fix the errors within the country such as the war, stock markets crashing, gas prices, etc. With his mind set, he can make this country a better place. Make sure you guys for Obama and don’t vote for him because he is black. Vote for him b/c of his strong platform.
Guess whose is now president? Yes, Obama is president, and he is the first African-American president. Will he live up to his platform? He had a strong platform. I think he will live up to his responsibilities and make a world a better place for everyone. Right now people are probably crying. He is going to be an outstanding president. There is no need to be worry.
The presidential election went amazingly. History was made when Obama became the first African American president. Although I didn’t vote because it was to late, I personally wanted Obama to win. His inspiring speech and his philosophy of how to help this country shows how unique he is. The changes that he promised us are finally to come. I feel that after Obama won the election a lot of people came at ease because this is a great change to America and the begin of other changes yet to come. He promises to restore our middle class, bring us out of Iraq and keep us out, restore our economy, and make tax cuts. This showed all of us that he has taken our issues into consideration and he is realizing what is to be targeted to make us humans live in a better society and economy. Many of us going through financial problems need help from a democrat candidate and Obama is the one to grab a hand. On the other hand Bush is a supporter of Maccain a republic candidate, so what changes will Maccain lead us to? John McCain’s whole life has been wrapped up in the military so it’s not surprising that he wants more war and no peace. Maccain is one of America’s heroes according to the previous wars and what he has done. Now that he has health problems it’s his turn to sit back and relax instead of being overwhelmed from political situations. America has gone through a lot and it can not handle another four years of no change.
I am very pleased with the results of the presidential election. We have our first African American president, and I helped elect him. I was so excited about voting that I did an early voting ballot over Fall Break. I will forever remember November 4th, when I looked at the television screen and saw that Obama had over three hundred Electoral College votes. At first I was nervous because Obama had a huge lead over McCain, then McCain just had a huge surge of electoral votes. But I guess Obama received his winning Electoral College votes after the West Coast closed voting polls. After Obama was announced president-elect, I remember running to the UC, so I could join in the celebrating. November 4th was one of the best nights of my life. I feel like I can do anything because of that night. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead in President-Elect Obama’s term. I think everyone expecting more out of him since he will be the first black president, but I have faith in our future president. One thing that bothered me about the election was the racial division. After Obama was declared president-elect, some McCain supporter began to act childish. For instance, I am from Mobile which is traditionally a republican city. When I called my mom to discuss the election, she told me that white friends of hers who supported McCain would not even acknowledge her because Obama had won the election. I thought that was a very trifling and it really irked me that people who are supposedly in their thirties and up would act like that. But it doesn’t matter anyway. Obama will still be the 44th president!
Im very excited. This country has came a long way. Our new President Barack Obama is ready to make change in this country. And I think he will. I am proud to say that we have an African American as our president this time. Me, like most of the other people stood in line for hours. Just to vote. And made history. Its feels great. This was the most important election ever in history of this country. Many people do not realize that the choice we have made today by electing him as president will affect all of us in this country in the future in many ways. A lot of changes are about to be made. And I believe America is ready for something different and a brighter tomorrow. Which many people that voted differently do not see. We have cam a long way. And still we have a far way to go. And I believe Obama will lead this country to the right path and get us out of war. There are many other things he is willing to change. And I think together as a country, we all can make this changes happen for the generations ahead.
The 2008 Presidential Election means a lot to me. For one, this was the first Presidential Election that I was able to vote in. This alone is a major accomplishment. A lot of people take this write for granted. People in other countries don’t get this opportunity. Our government set up has allowed us to actually have input in who leads us. I appreciate this right and I will always exercise this right. Everyone should exercise the right to vote. It is and important yearly process. I feel a since of achievement since the day I voted. I voiced an opinion, and for once, it mattered. I am also excited by the presidential candidate that our country has chosen to elect into office. It is an accomplishment for African-Americans, but most importantly, it is an accomplishment for Americans. For an African- American man to even be considered as an individual qualified to lead this country is a giant leap for us as a country. As a country we were able to put all prejudices aside, and we made a decision based on who we felt would better lead our country. Ultimately, that is what matters. It shouldn’t matter a person’s race, age, or creed. I can honestly say that I did not vote for Obama because of the color of his skin. I felt he was the obvious choice because of his political views. He believes in ideas that I agree with. This Presidential Election has made me believe that the United States may have hope of one day putting aside personal prejudices.
New Orleans is the perfect place to visit when you want good wholesome cooking. The restaurants are among the best of the best. Individuals will never be disappointed by the food. Some of the best restaurants are hidden within the French Quarter. I went to visit Mona’s. Mona’s is an Italian restaurant that serves any type of pizza and pasta. When I first walked inside Mona’s I was disgusted at the appearance of the restaurant. It looked like it had never been cleaned. Little did I know, Mona’s was supposed to appear as though it was run down. This look gave Mona’s a more noncurrent look. The place where it is located used to be a carriage stable. The horses used to be brought there and washed. I had a great experience at Mona’s. I would definitely return and bring others with me to enjoy themselves while they indulge in great food. The food was freshly cooked and made to the customers liking. The restaurant was covered in different Mona Lisa pictures and painting. The painting and pictures connected the scenery of the restaurant and the name, Mona’s. This experience brought about many thoughts of New Orleans, such as how many restaurants, boutiques, etc. are hidden within the city. I don’t exactly remember where Mona’s is located but I know it is close to the French Quarter in one of the side streets. After leaving Mona’s I wanted to explore more of New Orleans and see what else I was missing out on.
PLEASE DISREGAURD THE POST ABOVE THIS ONE.
I had to contemplate long and hard to really put my thoughts together on the presidential election. When I heard Obama won nothing ran through my mind. If someone reads this and gets offended please do not these are my opinions. I know history was made but our economy is so far in debt and practically destroyed that it would take a miracle for us to bail ourselves out without aid. I believe that if either one got into office a few to none of the promises were going to be kept because our economy is horrible. The 2008 Presidential Election was my first voting experience besides school elections. I keep wondering why my vote counts so much and it is said to go out and vote because your vote counts. Well it does not count, we vote to determine who is more popular. Electoral College votes decide who will win that state; therefore, they decide who will win the election. I also believe it is very unprofessional and childish for individuals to discriminate others because of their vote. I have friends tell me that I should not vote for Obama because of his values and morals when McCain’s views and morals are no better. It all comes down to the fact that he is black. I hate playing the race card and it is ridiculous that we have to do that because we should be more mature. Whoever has the best views should be elected and obviously that person won. Major Republican states voted for Obama such as, Florida and Ohio. These states are very loyal to their party; however, they voted for Obama because he was a better candidate for the job.
What are my thoughts about the presidential election? First, I did not get to vote because my birthday was the Tuesday after the presidential election. Since I knew I would not be able to vote, I did not pay much attention to all the debates. The main things I knew about the candidates were things that I heard others say, and random blurbs on the radio. People ask me why I did not follow, and I told them it did not matter because I could not vote. However, I did help out at the voting poll located at Sarah T. Reed High School in New Orleans East. I heard many comments from people saying that it has been a while since they voted. I think this election was in fact, a big deal. This is the first time that we had a minority running for president. As we all know, Barrack Obama won the 2008 Presidential election. There were many opinions expressed following these results. I think it is great that Obama won because America does need change and I am sure that Obama would be able to produce change and do good for our country. Also, Barrack Obama’s win shows that America is in fact ready to put all of our discrimination and racism to the side and let the past be the past. It has also been a while since we have had a Democratic president, so maybe this will make things better.
My thoughts about the presidential election is that it is something significant and important. I did not get a chance to vote, so I missed out. What prevented me from voting is that I won’t be eighteen until december which really sucks. I know for a fact that the 2008 presidential election is important and it made history. For the first time in American history, we have an African American as president of our nation. Not only because of Obama mixture of racial background, the fact that he is a democrat. We have had a republican in office for eight years, so many feel that it is time for a change. I feel that the importance of the presidential election should not be base on race. But it should be base on what plans or actions the candidates have. I would want a highly intelligent and a strong leader to be my president. I think Obama have those values and qualities, but I can’t quite judge just yet and will look forward to what he will bring. Though I am not able to vote, I still watched the debates between the two candidates. I am not really into politics and it doesn’t interest me. This year has been a hectic year for our nation. Due to what is occuring, I became interested in trying to understand more about politics and the importance of our economy. Now all we can hope for is what future Obama will lead us to. There are many struggles that is occuring today so many are still waiting to see what actions Obama will take.
I feel wonderful about the presidential election. I really cannot believe that he won. When I first heard about him running for president, I thought that wow this man might change history. I said if he were to become the first black president I would be so proud. I thought that it was going to be a really tough race. I mean it was really time for a change. It was really time for Bush to go because he was causing too much chaos. Toomany people were dying in the war I do not really see what change did he bring while he was in office. When I heard of the great things Obama said he was going to bring, I was ecstatic. I thought that this might be a time in my life when I do not have to worry about with the world is going to bring. I did not praise him just because he was a black man, but because I believed in him. This was my first time voting so this election was really important to me. I felt that maybe McCain might when but Obama took the race quickly, fair and square. When he won I was so excited, I couldn’t believe what had happened, history was changed. I wanted to cry. I prayed that he would win. My vote was important because evry vote counts. Wow the first black president. Many people probably have many different things to say about the election due to the many prejudices in the world, but I believe that everything is going to be alright. I hope that Obama does everything he has set out to do. I hope that he does not let us down because we really need him in our society. Sometimes it feels like there is no hope in this country, but now I feel a sense of sanity. I hope that he really touches on the bases of the gas prices and the taxes. The most important thing is the equality in healthcare, and I hope that he removes the injustice in America. We need him to make a change. Also he is not just the first black president, he is a leader. I believe in Obama’s plan. He is also a democraic president. This is history in the making. I love you Obama.
The 2008 presidential elections were very interesting in my opinion. We had John McCain who had been apart of the Senate for over 2 decades. Then there was Barack Obama who didn’t have the experienced that McCain did but the potential to do things that McCain wasn’t capable of. But the most interesting thing of all was that I would be one of the determening factors of who would get the chance to run the country and spread the views of all americans.
I debated with myself back and fourth on which Senator would receive my vote. Finally, I came to the conclusion that it would go to Obama. Baracks views and plan would benefit me the most. The economy is coming to an all time low and as a college student I definitely need to get back on track and I felt as though Obama would be the better canidate for the job.
When the results finally came in, I was quite shocked. Not because of the canidate that won, but because the results were in so soon. As I watched the screen, my mind went into a black out. One could say I was overwhelmed. The results had revealed that Barack Obama had won the 2008 presidential election and since I voted for him, I finally felt as though I mattered, my vote mattered. Barack Obama had broken barriers because he was ready to do thing differently than before and jump off of the bandwagon and I was ready to help!
I believe that the 2008 presidential election is a very controversial and interesting occurrence within our country. In this election there are two candidates: Barack Obama and John McCain. Barack Obama is the first African American to run for president. John McCain is a Viet Nam War veteran who became a United States Senator. I believe that Barack Obama can bring great change to our country. John McCain’s viewpoints are similar to that of George W. Bush, the current president of the United States of America. This election seemed to be focused mainly on the economic status of the country due to the recession we are experiencing at this point in time. Barack Obama wants to “distribute the wealth” which raises taxes in order to provide for those who are less fortunate. I was not able to vote for the election because I was not a registered voter during the time of the election; therefore, I was not able to vote and possibly change the outcome of the election. People believed that our country was not ready for an African American president due to the constant presence of racism. Barack Obama has brought hope to the minorities of our country and helped them achieve something that was never though possible in this time of war. He enabled everyone to believe that anything is possible if we just take advantage of the priviledges we are presented with in our country. The United States of American gives its citizens the chance to decide what they want for this country and how it operates.
Yay! Im so glad that Im old enough to vote. It will be my first time voting and Im anxious to be able to take part in the most popular political election that takes place every four years. What I know about the presidential election is that there is Republican candidate John McCain and Democratic candidate Barack Obama. I was pretty sure John McCain would win because he’s white and is an experienced politician and on the other hand, Obama is black and is a novice in politics. I thought that most people would judge the potential president not by his skin color but by his experience in politics. A president must have the skills necessary to become a president and to be able to carry out his duties effectively. Well, surprisingly Barack Obama won the election by a getting the required number of electoral votes. To me that was shocking because I didn’t know that a majority of people in this country wanted a change in presidency and not stick to tradition. I guess Obama was their hope for change as a Democratic president and as the first Black American to become president. I guess if we have a Democratic president, he can be flexible with internal policies and worldly affairs like getting American soldiers out of Iraq for Christ’s sake.
